Trade-In's

Desert Solutions accepts Trade-ins on a case by case basis.

These guidelines are very loose, and room is left for judgement on each individual PC.

What happens to my old PC?

If we take your old PC in trade, all or part, The old PC comes back to our facility where it goes into que to be evaluated for repair, or dis-assembly for parts.

If it is used for parts, we may take any portion of the PC that is usefull for completing a more suitable system for resale or donation to local charities and Not for Profit organizations (Schools, Public Charities, Private Charities, needful families etc.)

If your PC is evaluated to be usefull as a complete system, we will refurbish it, test it, and prepare it for it's new owner.

All systems and parts as a minimum go through the following:

Cleaning (Removing old dust, fingerprints, handprints, grub, etc...)

Parts testing and replacent. We test and repair/replace any items found to be not to standard, or not reliable for use by the next owner.

Upgrade: In most cases, some upgrading is required to make the unit usefull with todays standards.

Data Remove: We delete previous customer information and re-format the PC to make it like new for the next owner

End User: We put the unit on the shelf and either sell or donate it as we best see fit. Your old PC is now someone elses New PC!

What is it worth in trade?

It is not possible to give a chart of true value with so many factors affecting the market and our ability to give trade-in for systems. The below info is for estimation only, (Ball Park) and will be judged by tech / sales at time of trade if accepted.

As a rule of thumb however, we try to give as much as we can to help you feel good about your trade-in. If you don't feel good about it, try to look forward at what you will likely do with it as an alternative, either donate it, give it to a relative, or use it for some other purpose for yourself - is it going to end up in a closet, or in the trash???

Do remember however if you keep it or donate it, the costs involved with getting it ready for the next user, and the importance of removing your personal information from the PC... Also keep in mind the possible burdon to the new user if you don't have the needed upgrading and renewal done to the unit before you pass it. They will have to incur those costs. Are you truly doing them a favor...

We try to fit within these guidelines:

Complete PC with all documentation that it came with (ie. Software licenses and disks)... All needed cables to plug it in and make it work, PC was functional at time of trade, or in need of upgrade / software repairs, but will boot up.

Below 200 Mhz CPU: Max 20$

233-366 MHZ CPU: ~30$

400-550 MHZ CPU: ~40$

600-800 MHZ CPU: ~50$

Above 800 MHZ CPU: ~60$ or more based on eval.

Good 15" Monitor - ~10$

Good 17" Monitor - ~20$

Good 19" Monitor - ~30$

Top Brand / Model Monitor add ~$5-$10 depending on age.

All items require included components! Cords/KB/Mouse/Software/Manual needed for full value of trade on CPU, Cables needed for monitors.

Decrease prices:

~5$ if monitor date over 5yrs old

~5$ if monitor has fuzzy picture, poor color, brightness or screen burn.

~5$ for permanent damage, stains, glue on cases or visible items.

~5$ if missing any items such as KB, Mouse, Cables, Cords etc.

~10$ if no software / manuals with CPU's

The more you have with your PC, and the more re-sellable it is, the more it is worth to us.

The older, slower, less functional or less parts you have for your PC, the less it is worth.

We do not have a market for anything less than Pentium class. However if the accessories to the PC have some value (Such as a newer monitor, KB, Mouse, Speakers, Printer, Scanner, etc...), we may still place some value on the entire trade-in.

What are my other options?

The best thing to do is contact local charities to see if they will take your older than Pentium PC as a donation. Usually, they are not good for donations to schools since the schools children are often at an adult of faster PC learning pace and the older machines are of no use to them either.

PC's in the 200-500 MHZ range may bring as much as $50 dollars on a complete re-sellable trade-in with software license and peripherals such as Monitor, Printer, KB, and Mouse. This is based on a new system purchase.

PC's in the above 500Mhz range may bring more based on their specifications.

Laptop Trade-ins.

Laptops of any class will be evaluated individually. Functional / Resellable laptops will bring more than laptops that are only good for parts. Laptops that have bad batteries or broken displays usually are worth less than their repair costs since used display replacements start over $300 as a rule of thumb. Also missing items such as the power cord or supply are very costly to replace, and are often cost prohibitive on older units.

Once again, laptops will be evaluated based on function and equipment specs. This is designed as a benefit to help with the purchase of a new or 'newer' refurbished unit.

Contact us for inquiries regarding the value of your trade...

Footnote: Traded in equipment will be re-formatted and re-sold as soon as one week after completion of sale. It is strongly reccomended that all data is migrated or backed up from the old equipment prior to trade-in. Data can no longer be recovered once the system is re-formatted and re-sold.

Privacy Statement: We will never sell your information or provide it to anyone else (unless required by law to do so). We use it for ourselves to contact you or for sales record purposes only. We rarely send e-mail (Usually less than 1 per month) as well. We do not believe in or support SPAM. We don't use Cookies either... Our store runs a bit slower because of this, but it is on a secure server. You are safe with us! Thanks for your business!
